Most people in work don’t realise that they are not, and have likely never been, on a fully-actualised team. Anatomy of a Team is designed to address one of the most common questions we hear from leaders in the course of our work: how can groups of talented people be converted into the high-functioning teams essential for sustained success through times of disruption?

The Anatomy of a Team program highlights the characteristics required to create and sustain a team: individual mindsets and behaviours that are the glue in an optimal team. For those in a ‘high-functioning group’, which represents the majority of people who think they are actually in teams, Anatomy of a Team explains why it’s worth making the extra effort and how to achieve this goal through group discussion and commitments to simple pro-team behaviours. 


Who it’s for: Senior leaders and managers


Objectives: Help participants understand the status quo of teamwork and how to move towards being an optimal team by:

  • Break down the cognitive behavioural differences between groups of elite individuals and high-performing teams
  • Understanding how functions or business units are operating currently and where they sit on the APS Groups & Teams Continuum
  • Understanding the business case for inclusive leadership
  • Learning the mindsets and behaviours required in teams
  • Understanding personal responsibility and accountability
  • Mastering difficult conversations and viewing them as a function of optimal teams


Workshop duration: 3 hour interactive session


Outcomes: Participants will understand the personal mindsets and behaviours that will contribute to true teaming. They will learn about the “collegial contract” – the interpersonal commitment that facilitates the performance boost experienced when part of a team.
