Diversity Day
(schools and educational institutions only)
The Diversity day format is a very successful day long format for schools and universities looking to deal with issues around diversity and inclusion in general as well as enhancing the atmosphere on their campus regarding any specific diversity related incidents. Often part of the appeal of this programme is the ability to muster support from local co-sponsors (another schools or universities, community groups, etc.) who share the investment into the programme and the benefits of the day long events. We have found the partnerships created to pull together a diversity day event can reap massive long-term benefits.
John is expert at delivering the right tone for any age group, he speaks about multiple identities and the impact of bias and prejudice on the majority as well as the minorities. His approach breaks down the old-fashioned ideas of a hierarchy of oppression where people must rank themselves according to burdensome labels and see themselves as somehow better or worse, worthy or not of respect, love and success, dependant on their faith, colour, gender, weight, age, sexual orientation or any other single aspect of themselves.
The day is delivered in its entirety by John and includes a presentation open to everyone, time for several individual class visits, a book signing, a 'lunch & learn' event for faculty, staff and coaches and an evening after-school presentation for the school or university, parents, local community and any co-sponsors of the event.
Detailed client commentary and feedback from previous 'Diversity Day' events can be found under the 'clients & testimonials' tab.
